Douglas Luiz: similar high passing totals have come from opposite areas of Juventus’ buildup

Douglas Luiz attempted 69 passes against Parma and 71 against Atalanta, both in 90 minutes, but the composition changed substantially. Parma allowed 56 passes in the opposition half and only 13 in his own. Atalanta’s split was 26 advanced and 45 deeper passes. The overall count was almost unchanged because a large buildup workload replaced much of his advanced involvement.

Sassuolo offered neither contribution at that scale: 18 own-half passes and 36 beyond halfway produced 54 overall. Milan yielded 52 in 76 minutes, including 41 advanced passes, while Frosinone produced 44 in 79. The team passing pools against Parma and Atalanta were also similar, 533 and 521, making the geography shift more informative than a possession-only explanation. For the next fixture, a high Douglas Luiz total does not require one fixed attacking pattern. Juventus can support it through repeated deeper circulation or sustained advanced exchanges. The weaker setup is one where he is less involved in both, even if the team still enjoys a possession majority.

What to watch

Ask which workload Juventus are giving Douglas Luiz. Parma’s advanced role and Atalanta’s deep buildup both supported high totals; losing one route matters less if the other replaces it.

PLAYER PASS ATTEMPTS

Davide Frattesi: Lazio’s possession can rise without increasing his passing workload

Davide Frattesi attempted only 18 passes in 90 minutes against Venezia while Lazio made 505. Against Milan, Lazio’s team count was much lower at 317, yet Frattesi attempted 22 across the same duration. His own-half passes increased from seven to 13 in the Milan match while advanced passes fell from 11 to nine. Extra deeper work supported the higher individual total despite the smaller team possession platform.

Udinese supplied his largest recorded count, 27 in 80 minutes, with 19 passes in the opposition half. That was a busier advanced role than Venezia despite fewer minutes. Genoa produced 23 across 90, while the six passes against Bologna came in only 36 minutes and belong to a shorter appearance type. These distinctions mean that a forecast of Lazio dominance is insufficient by itself. Frattesi’s personal share of the exchanges matters, and his recorded passing role has remained modest even when the team has a substantial pool. The stronger case for an increase is repeated involvement like Udinese, not simply a return to a full match.

What to watch

Identify whether Lazio are routing more exchanges through Frattesi. Udinese provided advanced involvement; Milan added deeper work. A larger team count alone did not help him against Venezia.

PLAYER PASS ATTEMPTS

Assane Diao: a full match has not guaranteed more passes than a shorter, busier role

Assane Diao attempted 35 passes in 65 minutes against Napoli, compared with 34 across 90 minutes against Frosinone. Como’s possession was actually higher against Frosinone, 65% versus 58%, but its team passing total was smaller, 498 versus 609. Diao’s advanced passes were similar, 30 versus 28, while his deeper contribution fell. A possession percentage and additional minutes therefore did not establish a higher personal count.

Parma supplied an even shorter but active appearance: 30 passes in 55 minutes, with 28 in the opposition half. Genoa produced 38 in 84 minutes, including 31 advanced passes. The Udinese outing was lower at 11 passes in 45 minutes, so reduced duration and weaker involvement combined there. For another fixture, Diao’s expected role needs to be assessed through the amount of passing activity available while he is on the pitch. A sustained advanced role can accumulate quickly; a longer appearance in a slower or differently distributed passing environment may not. The useful condition is repeated Como exchanges involving him, rather than assuming a straight line from minutes to passes.

What to watch

Look for Diao repeatedly involved beyond halfway during his likely appearance. Napoli and Parma supplied that activity in less time; Frosinone’s higher possession and full minutes did not produce a larger total.

PLAYER PASS ATTEMPTS

Armand Laurienté: the Monza passing increase came from a larger role in sustained Sassuolo possession

Armand Laurienté played 90 minutes in each recorded appearance, so the rise to 53 passes against Monza from 29 against Juventus was not a duration effect. Sassuolo’s team count increased from 393 to 581 and possession from 45% to 65%, while Laurienté’s opposition-half passes more than doubled from 18 to 39. His own-half contribution rose only from 11 to 14. The main change was repeated advanced involvement within a larger passing environment.

The other matches show why the full Monza setup matters. Laurienté attempted 32 passes against Torino, including 28 beyond halfway, and 34 against Atalanta, including 25 advanced passes. Those were useful levels of involvement without the same team circulation. Bologna and Juventus both left him on 29 overall, but a different balance between deeper and advanced work helped produce the same result. For the next fixture, expecting another full match is not enough to justify the Monza ceiling. Sassuolo need sustained possession that repeatedly runs through Laurienté in the opposition half; otherwise his role can remain closer to the lower totals even with similar minutes.

What to watch

Look for Sassuolo combining a larger passing pool with repeated advanced exchanges through Laurienté. The Monza rise came mostly beyond halfway, so deeper or more intermittent possession would not reproduce it automatically.

PLAYER SHOTS

Gonçalo Ramos: long appearances have not protected his shot count when Milan’s service disappears

Gonçalo Ramos took eight shots against Venezia and five against Torino, playing 90 minutes in each. The Torino attempts were all recorded as assisted chances; Venezia added transition and throw-in situations to repeated assisted service. Those matches gave him several routes to an attempt, even though only one Torino shot and three Venezia shots reached the target. Strong shot volume did not mean equally strong accuracy or scoring.

Juventus and Lecce then held Ramos to no recorded attempt across full 90-minute appearances, while Lazio allowed only one corner-situation effort in 85 minutes. These are not low totals that can be explained mainly by early substitution. The direct shooting involvement available against Torino and Venezia was absent. For the next match, projecting another long appearance is only one part of the question; Milan must restore service that actually ends with Ramos attempting a shot. A matchup that gives teammates the opportunities while bypassing him can remain quiet personally, regardless of Milan’s overall attacking expectations.

What to watch

Look for Milan repeatedly finding Ramos in assisted or transition shooting situations. Full-match minutes did not generate attempts against Juventus or Lecce, so a return of personal service is the key condition.

PLAYER PASS ATTEMPTS

Nico Paz: the largest passing totals required repeated advanced exchanges, not a full 90 minutes

Nico Paz attempted 67 passes against Genoa and 64 against Parma, playing 80 minutes in each. Both matches supplied exactly 56 passes in the opposition half; the three-pass difference came from deeper work. These were sustained advanced roles within Como team totals above 600, giving a clear foundation for his higher personal counts.

Frosinone produced only 49 passes despite Paz playing 90 minutes and Como holding 65% possession, higher than in either Genoa or Parma. The team passing pool was smaller at 498, and his advanced contribution fell to 39. Napoli also offered fewer advanced exchanges, 38, within a 55-pass appearance. Udinese’s 48 included more deep involvement but only 30 passes beyond halfway. For the next matchup, a long appearance is useful but cannot replace the repeated advanced role behind the Genoa and Parma totals. Como holding the ball elsewhere or circulating less frequently can keep Paz below those levels even when the possession percentage looks favorable.

What to watch

Look for the repeated advanced exchanges that produced 56 opposition-half passes against both Genoa and Parma. A full appearance and higher Como possession did not recreate that workload at Frosinone.

PLAYER PASS ATTEMPTS

Federico Dimarco: minutes and deeper involvement explain much of the passing range

Federico Dimarco attempted 61 passes against Monza and 54 against Cagliari, both in 90 minutes. His opposition-half contribution was similar, 27 and 29, while own-half passes fell from 34 to 25. The larger Monza total came from more buildup work behind halfway, not additional advanced exchanges. Both fixtures also offered a large Inter team passing pool.

The lower totals need their appearance lengths kept visible. Dimarco attempted 29 passes in 62 minutes against Napoli, 24 in 54 against Roma and 22 in only 20 against Udinese. The Udinese figure is a short, busy appearance rather than evidence of a normal full-match ceiling. Napoli still supplied 23 advanced passes but only six in his own half, so the reduced total combined fewer minutes with much less deep circulation. For another fixture, the first condition is how long Dimarco is expected to play. Within a comparable duration, Inter’s use of him in buildup can add materially to the count even when the advanced contribution is steady.

What to watch

Establish Dimarco’s likely appearance length, then assess his deeper passing workload. The Monza–Cagliari comparison shows that more buildup exchanges can lift the total without more opposition-half passes.

PLAYER SHOTS ON TARGET

Lautaro Martínez: ten attempts against Cagliari produced fewer targets than six against Napoli

Lautaro Martínez took ten shots against Cagliari but put only one on target. Six missed and three were blocked, with opportunities arriving through assisted play, corners and transitions. The high attempt count did not translate into accurate finishing. Against Napoli, six attempts produced three targets and two goals, with the finishes coming from valuable throw-in and corner situations worth approximately 0.88 and 0.51 xG. Fewer attempts supplied better scoring openings and more targets.

Roma provided another six-shot appearance and two goals, but both targets went in while a major chance missed and another corner attempt hit the post. That result should not be treated as evidence that every useful chance was finished accurately. The 54-minute Monza appearance was a different issue again: no recorded shot, making service and playing time more relevant than accuracy. For the next fixture, a large Lautaro attempt expectation can support opportunities to hit the target, but the Cagliari example shows the need for attempts to get through defenders and stay accurate. Useful set-piece service can improve scoring quality without requiring his highest total shot count.

What to watch

Distinguish shooting supply from accuracy. Cagliari gave Lautaro repeated attempts but few targets; Napoli supplied valuable set-piece openings. A high shot count alone does not resolve how many reach the goalkeeper or become goals.

FIRST TO SCORE

Udinese: scoring first has ranged from a valuable transition to efficient early finishing

Udinese opened the scoring against Como, Monza, Lazio and Inter, but the chance behind each breakthrough differed. Against Como, Hassane Kamara converted a substantial fast-break opportunity worth roughly 0.54 expected goals. At Inter, James Abankwah scored from a corner worth about 0.34 before Udinese added another goal. Those openings had clearer opportunity support than simply relying on a difficult isolated shot.

Monza nevertheless created the stronger first-half chance total, 1.24 xG to Udinese’s 0.63, and had a substantial opportunity blocked before Udinese’s opener. Udinese then converted all three first-half targets to lead 3–1. Lazio’s first half was relatively quiet before Udinese broke through after the interval. Cagliari reversed the pattern: Udinese created 0.68 first-half xG without scoring, had a substantial corner chance saved after the break, and then conceded to a major Maldini opportunity. For the next match, the recent opening-goal sequence is strongest when Udinese can reproduce a valuable transition or restart chance. It is less secure when the opponent creates the better early opportunities and the outcome relies on Udinese finishing first despite that imbalance.

What to watch

Compare the quality and timing of the first major opportunities. Como’s transition and Inter’s corner offer concrete Udinese routes; Monza’s missed chance and Cagliari’s breakthrough show how conversion can reverse the order.

FIRST TO CONCEDE

Torino: conceding first has sometimes followed missed opportunities to take the lead itself

Torino conceded the opener against Milan, Sassuolo, Fiorentina, Roma and Bologna, but the sequence had different causes. Milan dominated the first half with ten shots to one before eventually scoring in the 64th minute. Roma’s opener came from a near-certain Donyell Malen chance. Those matches contained clear reasons why the opponent reached the breakthrough first.

Sassuolo is a useful counterexample: Che Adams had a substantial chance saved in the seventh minute, long before Sassuolo opened the scoring from a difficult effort. Fiorentina also had an early valuable opportunity saved, then eventually scored through a low-probability fast break just after half-time. Bologna’s 14th-minute opener came from a modest chance in a half where neither side created much. For the next match, Torino’s first-concession sequence is most persuasive when the opponent can impose Milan-like early pressure or reach a Roma-like clear opening. It is less secure when the previous order depended on Torino missing its own strong chance and the opponent converting a difficult one. Early opportunity quality matters more than extending the sequence mechanically.

What to watch

Compare the first clear chances on both sides. An opponent dominating Torino’s early access strengthens the first-concession pattern; an Adams-like early opening gives Torino a realistic route to reversing it.

FIRST TO CONCEDE

Lazio: scoring first has sometimes depended on surviving the opponent’s better early chance

Lazio scored first against Bologna, Genoa, Milan and Venezia, while Udinese broke the deadlock against it. The Venezia result is the clearest reason not to treat that sequence as automatic early control. Venezia created 1.27 first-half expected goals and had John Yeboah’s penalty saved; Lazio created only 0.24 and had no target before half-time. Lazio eventually opened the scoring with its own penalty after the interval. The first-goal outcome depended heavily on which side converted its exceptional opportunity.

Bologna also had a substantial chance saved before Lazio’s 59th-minute opener. Genoa and Milan offered stronger examples of Lazio creating the early danger itself: Lazio scored in the 25th and tenth minutes respectively, with the Milan first half producing 2.04 xG. At Udinese, both attacks were modest before the break and Lazio fell behind shortly after it. For the next fixture, an opponent capable of forcing a clear early chance can threaten Lazio’s first-goal pattern even if previous opponents failed to convert. The better support for Lazio striking first comes from its own early access to valuable opportunities, not simply from the frequency with which it has avoided conceding the opener.

What to watch

Compare the first meaningful chances, not just recent opening-goal results. A Venezia-like penalty or Bologna-like clear opportunity can change the sequence before Lazio’s attack develops.

Nicolò Barella: Inter’s biggest passing pool did not produce his biggest personal count

Nicolò Barella attempted 51 passes against Monza while Inter made 709, compared with 69 against Cagliari from a smaller team total of 686. Both appearances lasted 90 minutes. His own-half passes fell slightly from 25 to 22, but opposition-half passes rose from 26 to 47. The larger individual count came from a more substantial advanced role rather than Inter simply having more possession.

Udinese provided a similar route to 64 passes, with 44 beyond halfway. Napoli and Roma produced lower totals of 50 and 47, with smaller team passing pools and only 12 and 13 own-half passes. The Monza and Napoli totals were almost the same, but their geographic splits differed sharply, showing how deep and advanced involvement can offset one another. For another high Barella count, the useful condition is Inter repeatedly using him in advanced circulation while retaining enough supporting buildup work. A dominant team possession performance that routes exchanges elsewhere can leave him closer to the Monza total.

What to watch

Look for Barella’s personal advanced role, not just Inter’s team passing volume. Cagliari and Udinese supplied it; the larger Monza pool did not reach him in the same way.

Lewis Ferguson: triple-figure passing has come through two very different Bologna roles

Lewis Ferguson attempted 124 passes against Atalanta, with 78 in his own half, then 120 against Sassuolo, with 88 in the opposition half. The totals were similar but the workload reversed. Atalanta’s match involved much more deep circulation within a 683-pass Bologna performance; Sassuolo’s involved repeated advanced exchanges even though Bologna’s team total was smaller at 556. Both full appearances show that Ferguson can carry volume through different phases.

The lower examples also make personal involvement important. He attempted 65 passes against Napoli and 39 against Torino, despite Bologna’s possession being relatively close at 42% and 40%. The team passing pool was larger against Napoli, but Ferguson also participated more in both halves of the pitch. Lazio provided 83 passes at 59% possession, still well below the Atalanta count at 58%. For the next fixture, possession percentage alone cannot distinguish a triple-figure workload from an ordinary one. Bologna need enough total exchanges and a substantial share of them running through Ferguson, whether in buildup or beyond halfway.

What to watch

Look for a large Ferguson workload in either phase, not one fixed territorial pattern. Atalanta and Sassuolo reached similar totals through opposite passing locations; a small team pool and reduced personal involvement weakened both routes at Torino.

Mario Gila: more Milan possession has not always meant more personal passes

Mario Gila attempted 74 passes against Lazio and 67 against Lecce, both in 90 minutes, even though Milan’s team total rose from 629 to 698. His own-half contribution increased from 49 to 53, but opposition-half passes fell from 25 to 14. More team circulation and deeper involvement could not offset the reduction in his advanced role.

Torino shows another route to 74 passes: Gila reached that count in only 76 minutes, with 33 beyond halfway and 41 in his own half. Venezia and Juventus each produced 59 passes across nearly full appearances, with the same 39–20 geographic split despite different team possession levels. These comparisons make a simple forecast from Milan dominance unreliable. A larger team passing pool helps only if enough of it continues through Gila, and changes in passing location can either preserve or reduce his total. For another high count, repeated personal involvement in buildup plus some advanced circulation is more relevant than the team merely keeping the ball.

What to watch

Look for Gila’s advanced contribution as well as Milan’s deep circulation. Lecce’s bigger team passing total did not prevent his count falling when passes beyond halfway declined.

Alessandro Bastoni: triple-figure passing has required a heavy deep buildup workload

Alessandro Bastoni attempted 102 passes against Monza and 106 against Cagliari, with 66 and 64 respectively in his own half. Both were full appearances with Inter making more than 680 team passes. The triple-figure totals therefore depended substantially on repeated deep circulation, rather than simply Bastoni joining attacks beyond halfway.

Napoli and Udinese show the distinction. Bastoni attempted 37 opposition-half passes in both matches, close to his 36 against Monza, but own-half passes fell to 30 and 37. His overall totals were 67 in 79 minutes and 74 in 70. The shorter Udinese appearance actually produced more passes than Napoli because the deeper workload was larger. Roma combined a shorter 63-minute appearance with a smaller Inter passing pool and fewer exchanges in both areas, leaving him on 40. For another high total, a long role helps, but Inter also need to keep involving Bastoni in buildup. Territorial dominance that routes the ball elsewhere will not automatically reproduce the Monza and Cagliari counts.

What to watch

Look for repeated Inter buildup through Bastoni as well as his likely minutes. The big totals were built deep; similar advanced involvement alone produced much smaller counts against Napoli and Udinese.

Charles De Ketelaere: advanced involvement has kept passing useful even when Atalanta’s possession falls

Charles De Ketelaere attempted 40 passes against Cagliari and 37 against Juventus, both across 90 minutes. Atalanta’s team passing total was much larger against Cagliari, 696 versus 475, but De Ketelaere’s own counts stayed relatively close. His opposition-half passes were 36 and 32, while deeper contributions were only four and five. Most of his workload came through advanced exchanges, and a larger team passing pool did not translate proportionately into more personal passes.

Roma limited Atalanta to 33% possession and 324 passes, yet De Ketelaere still attempted 30 in a full appearance, including 24 beyond halfway. Atalanta’s dismissal was in stoppage time, so it does not explain the ordinary-match passing environment. The shorter appearances also differed: 19 passes in 30 minutes against Sassuolo exceeded 15 in 55 against Bologna. Those totals cannot be explained by duration alone. For the next matchup, a longer appearance gives more opportunity, but his passing expectation is stronger when Atalanta repeatedly include him in advanced combinations, even if they are not overwhelmingly dominant in possession.

What to watch

Look for De Ketelaere’s personal advanced involvement rather than scaling directly from Atalanta’s team possession. Juventus supplied almost the Cagliari count from a much smaller team passing pool.

Gleison Bremer: Juventus can lift his passing through advanced circulation or deep buildup

Gleison Bremer attempted 66 passes against Sassuolo and 72 against Atalanta, but the balance changed from 28 own-half and 38 advanced passes to 52 own-half and 20 advanced passes. Both were full appearances. The larger Atalanta total did not come from more attacking involvement; deep buildup replaced the reduced circulation beyond halfway.

Frosinone shows why the Juventus team total alone is insufficient. Juventus made 478 passes against both Frosinone and Sassuolo, yet Bremer’s personal count was 36 against Frosinone and 66 against Sassuolo. Most of that difference was advanced passes, 12 versus 38. Parma and Milan supplied intermediate totals of 53 and 48. For another high Bremer count, the useful question is whether Juventus are routing a substantial amount of play through him in either phase. A high possession percentage can coexist with a modest personal role, as Frosinone demonstrated, while lower possession can still produce heavy buildup work. The opponent’s effect on his passing location matters more than a simple team-dominance label.

What to watch

Identify whether Bremer is central to deep buildup or advanced circulation. Either route can support volume, but the identical Juventus team totals against Frosinone and Sassuolo show why personal involvement must be established.

Franco Mastantuono: his busiest passing game came without Fiorentina dominating possession

Franco Mastantuono attempted 39 passes against Napoli while Fiorentina held only 42% possession, more than his 31 against Frosinone with 60%. Both appearances lasted 90 minutes and the team passing totals were similar, 401 and 416. The individual difference came from more involvement in both areas: nine own-half passes and 30 beyond halfway against Napoli, compared with six and 25 against Frosinone. A possession majority was not necessary for his higher count.

Venezia supplied 27 passes in 89 minutes despite Fiorentina having just 37% possession. Roma and Torino produced lower totals, 14 and 12, but also shorter appearances of 63 and 45 minutes. Those examples combine duration and involvement constraints and should not be treated as full-match baselines. For the next fixture, a long role matters, but the stronger passing condition is Fiorentina repeatedly involving Mastantuono in its available exchanges. Napoli shows how a larger personal contribution can outweigh lower possession, while a long appearance alone does not guarantee the same workload if circulation goes elsewhere.

What to watch

Look for Mastantuono taking a larger role in Fiorentina’s passing, especially beyond halfway. The Napoli count came from personal involvement rather than a dominant team possession share.

Torino also supplied 83 passes, including 60 in his own half, showing that a substantial count does not require the same level of advanced involvement as an attacking midfielder.

Venezia and Juventus were much lower at 48 and 47 passes, with own-half contributions of 32 and 35. Pavlović played 90 minutes in every match, so duration does not explain the range. Milan’s possession against Torino and Venezia was nearly identical, 59% and 58%, yet his total differed by 35, predominantly through deep work. For the next fixture, the strongest high-count condition is Milan repeatedly using Pavlović in buildup rather than simply holding a possession majority. If the ball circulates elsewhere, a full match can still leave him near the lower examples.

What to watch

Look for repeated deep exchanges through Pavlović. The Torino–Venezia comparison shows why similar Milan possession does not establish a similar personal workload.

PLAYER PASS ATTEMPTS

Manuel Locatelli: the Parma passing peak was built almost entirely beyond halfway

Manuel Locatelli attempted 97 passes against Parma compared with 61 against Frosinone, both in 90 minutes. His own-half passes actually fell slightly, from 26 to 24, while opposition-half passes more than doubled from 35 to 73. The increase therefore came through a much larger advanced role, not extra time or deeper buildup. Juventus’ team passing total rose only from 478 to 533, so Locatelli’s personal involvement expanded more sharply than the overall pool.

Milan supplied an intermediate 74 passes, including 53 beyond halfway, despite Juventus holding only 49% possession. That total exceeded the Frosinone count at 63% possession. Across these three recorded appearances, a possession-majority assumption is therefore a weak guide to his workload. A future high count needs Juventus to keep routing advanced exchanges through Locatelli. The limited set of recorded appearances also makes selection and likely minutes worth establishing rather than assuming a continuing full-match role. The Parma ceiling is evidence of what that involvement can produce, not an automatic expectation whenever Juventus are favored.

What to watch

Look for Locatelli repeatedly involved in opposition-half circulation. The Parma increase came there almost exclusively, and the Milan comparison shows why possession percentage alone is insufficient.

PLAYER PASS ATTEMPTS

Martin Baturina: Como’s possession share can conceal a much quieter passing appearance

Martin Baturina attempted 38 passes in 55 minutes against Parma, but only 13 in 45 against Frosinone. Como’s possession percentages were almost identical, 64% and 65%, while the team passing pool fell from 655 to 498. Baturina’s advanced passes dropped from 29 to nine, accounting for most of the personal decline. Ten fewer minutes cannot by itself describe that change in involvement.

Napoli and Genoa offered more active roles, with 34 passes in 58 minutes and 37 in 66, including 26 and 31 beyond halfway. Udinese’s 45-minute appearance produced 19, above the same-duration Frosinone count but still below the busier outings. None of these recorded appearances lasted a full 90, so assuming full-match minutes would introduce a different role from the evidence. For the next fixture, the stronger passing case is Como repeatedly involving Baturina in advanced exchanges during his likely playing time. A nominal possession majority without that personal access can leave his total much lower.

What to watch

Use Baturina’s expected duration and his advanced involvement together. Parma and Frosinone had similar Como possession shares but very different passing activity reaching him.
